Window Quilts

I'm going to admit to not being very motivated these days.  Can't exactly put my finger on the source, but I'm trying desperately to work through it.  When I worked at a craft consignment shop I used to buy these old wooden windows.  The plan was to back them with quilts and sell them at some of the shows.
Turns out they are heavy, bulky and pricey.  None of those things are good for hauling to and from quilt shows.  But they are very pretty and unique, so I continue to do it.
While visiting one of my favorite local shops Fat Quarters in Vista CA, I found this new Judie Rothermel 30's convenience cloth.  I bought a yard which will yield me two windows.  But first I have to stitch in the ditch, yes around each piece.
Then wash off the old, dusty window frame.
Lastly, tack the quilt in place.
It still needs a picture frame hanger but I have time for that.  Yes, I still like making crafty items like this and even though it isn't very practical I will still haul it all the way to Long Beach and hope that it finds a home.

That is adorable...and is why I had so much stuff lying around...hoping someday they would become something beautiful!

I have numerous old window frames just sitting around the barn for various purposes...and this is one of them. Love it! I woke at 6 am to sun blasting me in the eyes through blinds this morning...I think a quilt is going to be living in front of those things too...very soon!

I've always loved these windows - I have several smaller ones - good job!

Love them.. I have a couple in my house but not with quilts behind them. One is a painted window and the other has dried flowers behind the glass. Love them both and love your idea.

Thanks for sharing.

I like how those look and think of that when I see old windows.

What is the best way to rack the quilt into the framewithout damaging it
